OMGrumi: Django Unchained

after making amigurumi for 5 years, I have a big box full of amigurumis.
I have trouble keeping them all and selling it might be a wise decision, but the problem is not every amigurumi made to be sold.
Some friends suggest me to focus on making amigurumi for the shop only or made by order, so I still can do my hobby while also getting money and no longer have problem in keeping every amigurumi.
but what's fun about that?
I don't think I will be happy by knitting/ crocheting the same amigurumi again and again just because it sell the most.  I make amigurumi cause I want too, just like this Django amigurumi.  it's not for sale of course, but I'm having a very great time making this amigurumi, which is priceless.
I instantly decided that I have to make Django amigurumi in that blue costume as I watched the movie because the costume is too ridiculous! I'm a fan of European costume, so I think Django made a very "good" choice on his costume as a freeman, too bad he didn't keep it until the end.  I like the movie very much.

I recently bought some rivet tools, and I already used it to add some buttons to the costume.  I misplaced the buttons, but since it looks good so I didn't fix it :p

OMGrumi: Angry Ahok

this amigurumi is my last amigurumi in 2012, as a conclusion of my first year in Jakarta.
Ahok is a nick name of the new vice-governor in Jakarta. (since 2012).
I'm not a permanent citizen of Jakarta, but I have been living in Jakarta for a year and maybe for another year (NOOOOOO!!!)
I didn't have a right to vote the governor of Jakarta, but I think it's a good thing that Jokowi and Ahok won the election.
because as soon as they become the official governor and vice governor, they started to fix Jakarta's infrastructures.
You could easily find news or video of Ahok being angry at some officers who didn't do their job right.

I made it using "survival knitting kits" left in my home. 
Not really survival, but most of my knitting needles are in Jakarta, I didn't bring them along to Bandung.
Luckily, there are some yarns, cable knitting needles and some of my sister's crafting supplies.
I can't make the eyeglasses though :(
the Angry Ahok is very small, only 5 cm.

oh by the way, 2012 is also the angry birds' year.  but no, I won't make any angry birds amigurumi.

OMGrumi : Pak Raden

In Indonesia, there are only a few TV programs for children.
I remember watching Si Komo and Si Unyil, two of the best local TV programs for children.
to be honest I'm more a fans of Si Komo than Si Unyil, I only watch Unyil's opening back then.
but what's make Unyil special is Pak Raden, the man behind Unyil and the gang.

I still remember watching one of Pak Raden's show when he was telling a story while he was also drawing.
I heard the same story many times,  but the one he's reading is still the best version.
What a great storyteller he is!

ever since that day, I always hope to become a great storyteller like him.
If I ever had a chance to take graduate programs, it would be about educational TV program for children because I want to be like Pak Raden who dedicates his life for Indonesian children.

I just found out last year that Pak Suyadi (the real person who plays the Pak Raden character) was also from ITB 's art faculty.  Both of us are animators, He's making puppet while me making yarn plushie.  Is that a coincidence, or am I unconsciously trying to follow his steps?

OMGrumi: Afikaaa

 no matter how I hide the brand, you knew it anyway, Happy 100th birthday, Oreo!

 I don't have Tv in my room, but it's almost impossible not to know Afika (go google her :p).
She's lately becoming the trending topic, not only on Twitter but everywhere because of her cute appearance in a biscuit commercial.
Suddenly everyone changed their profile picture to Afika.
She's instantly became an internet meme, my favorite is this one: Afika vs Suzanna  (Suzanna was a legendary Indonesian horror actres).
meanwhile, among my knitter/ crocheter friends, Afika's hat became a hit.  Everybody's ordering Afika's hat and everybody seems to be happy to make the hat, the knitted earflap hat.
it was my first time knitting a hat, and I tried my best to make the cable knitting without pattern at all.

 

 yup.. it's removable, so maybe someday I'll make a comic using this amigurumi :)

OMGrumi: Jupe

when I started the OMGrumi of famous people,  I thought it was easy to just make an amigurumi (crocheted toys) based on some random famous people.
Later, I find out that I don't want to make a doll version of just random famous people.  I need to like the real person first, that's why this time I choose Julia Perez or Jupe.

She's an entertainer, and she's fenomenal.
I never watch her movie, nor listening to her song, so I'm not really a fans but I'm a pro Jupe.
Many people think bad about her because of her appearance (it's her gift anyway, don't blame her for being sexy), but when I watch her in a talk show, I believe she's actually a smart and brave lady.
yesterday, she made the news again because of her costume when she's watching Katy Perry's concert.
And I instantly decided, I must make an amigurumi of her :)
Let's just hope there's no stupid law against her costume.

PS: I know Jupe's costume which was designed by Aming was inspired by Katy Perry, but the one who inspired the making of this doll is Jupe.  Sorry that I consciously miss the best details on the costume :p

OMGrumi: Syahrini

2011 is almost over, it's too early to conclude the year,
but so far, for me this year is "sesuatu banget", or let me say it's Syahrini's year.
Syahrini is an Indonesian singer, a good one actually.

 Syahrini a.k.a Miss Sesuatu (Sesuatu = Something)

This year she gained a lot of attention because of her phrases, "sesuatu banget".
Nothing special about the phrase's meaning, but it was become a trend, everyone now saying "Alhamdulilah ya, sesuatu banget". 
Alhamdulilah is an Arabic word to express gratitude , and "sesuatu banget" means really something.
More or less the phrase means, Thankfully, it is (or was) really something.

Lately Syahrini become a trending topic again because of her "Jambul khatulistiwa" (Equatorial Hair bangs).  Nothing special about that hair bang, except that she wore it to welcome David Beckham and La Galaxy soccer team.  Many people mock Syahrini because of her appearance and attitude, especially because there are not many people so lucky to get a chance to meet Beckham (see the picture here)

anyway, I pick Syahrini as my first doll for my OMGrumi series. The series is about OMG thing, could be OMG you're so awesome, or OMG WTH are you thinking, but mostly is about celeb, real people.
Don't worry, famous people, I made this only for fame, not for money, so please don't sue me, I'll do my best to keep polite and respect you all.

People will forget the "sesuatu banget" phrase and the "Jambul Khatulistiwa" (and the orange dress she wore that time), but I don't think there's anyone better to represent the 2011 than Syahrini.
like I wrote, 2011 is "sesuatu banget".  it's not a bad nor a good year, 2011 is "really something".
