Where Have You Been?

It's been so long since the last post!  I think I knitted some amigurumis but didn't post them because those were based on others' pattern.

A post shared by zuperdzigh (@zuperdzigh) on

lately I've been using my crochet hook to insert polyfill to fabric dolls.
Yup. I started to use fabric for my new dolls.
I've been wanting to learn to sew for as long as I remember.  I remember tagging along my mother's social gathering while trying to sew a doll cloth.  I probably was 5 or 6  years old because later I  developed an antisocial tendency :P

When I was 13 I like sewing doll using flanel but I only started sewing with real cloth recently (December 2017).

A post shared by zuperdzigh (@zuperdzigh) on

I started making fabric dolls for my experimental project during my residency in Rimbun Dahan, Malaysia earlier this year. Then it became an obsession because sewing is actually fun.  I could make some shapes that is difficult to do with crochet technique.

MAY! I'm glad it's still 2017

And here's the story about the project, probably the boring part :)

There is a giveaway challenge on facebook and I really want the needle.  The challenge is to make knitted keychain.  The rule says it has to be cute, but I want it to be crazy or playful.

SO I started making sketches:

I need to consider my knitting skill, because unlike crocheted amigurumi, modifying the parts in knitted amigurumi is more difficult.
I thought of creating amigurumi based on meme, but there was no fun meme lately.
I also thought of making the celebgram into amigurumi version, but I don't like her nor inspired.
I did try to make a Cisewu tiger, but I unravel it because I can't do the color work.

SO plan B: making another design which is The Niffler.
I focused on the keychain inside the pocket and thinking on how to make the pocket works, because The Niffler has a pocket, right?
(The Niffler from Fantastic Beasts)

So what happened in 36 hours are knit-knit-knit.  I did sleep for few hours, take a shower (wow I'm proud of myself), lunch, dinner, etc.  But yeah, I almost never put down my needles, till my finger bleed.  Knitting is harmless, I hurt my finger when attaching the eyes with washer.

In the end of the day, I managed to finish the amigurumi at 11:30 PM, but the deadline is postponed until a week later.
What an anticlimax :D

But I think it's nice that I didn't know it was postponed, because I would have procrastinating.  I did knit in 36 hours before the "deadline" because I have cold for days.  If I knew the deadline is another week, maybe I would not be able to make anything because next week I have a lot of things to do, including playing Fire Emblem Echoes (they said, it would be released on May 19th)

Anyway, I wonder what's happened to my brain?  why all my latest amigurumis are birds?  Platypus is a mammal, but it looks like a duck right?

The Rooster Year

2017 will be a Rooster year, based on Lunar calendar.
I made this rooster amigurumi on Sunday and I plan on posting the pattern but suddenly I got lazy (it's Tuesday already)

Our house has a wide front yard with a lot of plants and trees, sometimes a chicken family have a picnic there.  The roosters at our village don't have clock, so sometimes they crow cock a doodle do at midnight.  You just can't rely on them.

Reborn Project

It's October 2016!  I've been away for way too long!
I was so busy with everything, like new work habbits, never ending "new rules", freelance project, and preparing my trip to Dok Leipzig 2016.  I almost had no time to relax since July.
Then "yesterday" happened.
I had to resign from the company I've been working for almost 5 years :(
Although I said that I wanted to resign, and I didn't really like the job, but I was so devastated that I have to quit without any plan or preparation.  It's a love-hate situations, but since there was love, even a very tiny little bit, it is really painful.
But I know it's the best for everyone. I understand.  And I am still proud for ever be a part of the company.

ANYWAY... since the moment was right, after I came home yesterday, I made the "reborn project".
Actually I had this idea for a long time, but have no time to do it.  Since I have no excuse, I made the project last night.
So I found a wind-up-chick at Sukajadi market (I think It was only one dollar, very cheap).  Since Dok Leipzig logo (or is it mascot?) is a white dove, then I reskin it into an amigurumi dove.
Of course it is anatomically wrong, the proportion is wrong, so at least let's try to make it cute.

2016 No More Drawa No No No Drawa

Happy New Year Everyone!

by the time I'm writing this post, some people on the different part of the world haven't celebrate the New Year.
Yesterday, on New Year eve, I just remember that I haven't updated this blog for way too long.  A year was about to pass without me ever hold the crochet hook.  So instead of working (YES, I was at the office on New Year Eve), I started and finished this amigurumi. I did finished it before New Year, but I just took the photos this morning.

The amigurumi is based on Drawa, the first version of Asian Games 2018 Mascot.  Drawa is a Cendrawasih which also called the bird of paradise.  A beautiful bird from Papua.  The design was announced just a few days ago and a lot of people unhappy with the design.  They said the design is dull.  Thanks to the social media, the Minister of sport heard that, so He announced that the mascot will be redesigned before the end of January.

Personally, I think the design is okay, it looks unfinished but could be improved.  I don't hate the design, but after trying to crochet it, the tail design and the sarong design don't make sense.  How can Drawa use the sarong properly with his tails?

the real design which cause a lot of complains.

photos taken at my mother's garden.  cute flowers right?

I made a lot of error, like the missing toe fingers and the tail is mirrored :p

Safety Eye' Washer Tutorial

My little sister has a stuffed toy project and she bought a pair of big safety eyes.
Similar to the ones I used for my amigurumis, only bigger and they don't come with washer.
Washer is the plastic you put behind the safety eye.

Safety eyes with washers

I googled "install safety eyes without washer" and the solution is to use glue.
So I decided to try my own way. Making the washer using bottle cap.

All you need is bottle cap, nail and hammer.
Make the hole at the bottle cap, it doesn't have to be neat, just make sure it's not to wide or to tight for the safety eyes.

Done.

You can cut the side of the bottle cap, but it's not necessary.

Happy Halloween!

Tomorrow is Halloween, but as usual, we Indonesian don't celebrate Halloween, but there are a lot of Halloween parties.

anyway, this post is not about Halloween.

As you may already know from the news, Indonesia currently facing a fire forest crisis. My knitting friend, Dydy, decided to help by selling one of her newest amigurumi pattern the Fire Flames. the profit will be donated for the fire and haze cause.

you may find the pattern on ravelry or on craftsy.

 Fire Flames amigurumi by Dydy

I think the fire flames are really cute, if only I didn't have the animation project I would make it right now.    By the way, if you check on Dydy's ravelry, she also designed adorable cat amigurumis.

Meanwhile, if you are living in Indonesia, you like making amigurumi, and currently looking for a new place for your amigurumi, how about giving them to the children with cancer?  Poyeng is collecting 100 amigurumis for the young cancer patient. the deadline is 5 January 2016. There are still a lot of time to join this good cause, so please join :)

Looking for The Restart Button

I have stopped knitting for almost a year.
I never intended to stop permanently, but that's what happened.

So I moved back to my parents house, I packed my knitting tools and all the yarns.
And I haven't start to unpack after all this month.
I feel guilty if I start knitting when I haven't finished my animation.

By the way, I have a very creative sister, everyday I enviously watch her creating something (mostly using papers, but sometimes she crocheting too), please check her instagram to see her creations.

while me trying to find the restart button, to start moving, or at least start living.

Hello May!

WHAT?  time goes by in a blink!

I knit something but haven't finished it, and I wonder if I ever finish it.
why pig has 4 legs and a pair of ears?
I'm too lazy to following the same pattern for 4 times.
ah, sorry for complaining.

by the way. I'm moving!
not this site.
I'm physically moving to another town, back to Bandung! Yay!

Bandung has cooler weather, which is better for playing with yarns,
I don't know if I would really start making things cause there's a lot of things to do, like unpacking.

I started knitting/ crocheting 7 years ago because my brother was getting married,
then I stop knitting/ crocheting 2 years ago because sister was getting married.
I hope it was just a myth, so I don't really stop knitting permanently.

Hello 2015

Hello!

and thanks for checking this blog and reading this post, while me rarely update it.

Happy New Year, all the best wishes for you and your family!

this is another post about how I miss knitting & crocheting but I wouldn't do it even if I do have spare time for now.

I'm currently working on a personal animation project. it's personal, but a lot of people involved in this project so better stay focused just for a couple more months.

I will certainly be back. not soon. but I will.

Bear Family in Wonderland

So it's happening again, the days when I suddenly got nothing to do (except my daily job).
It could be a good time to make an amigurumi or two, but I don't.
Cause after these days, I will be very busy working on a very ambitious project for the next 6 months, so I take my time doing nothing.

Few months ago I brought Pinkong to Bangkok.  i just remember that I bought her eyes from Bangkok (etsy store).  Thai people are very creative.  Actually I saw a lot of amigurumis in MBK and Asiatique (a modern floating market).
I didn't take any picture of the Thai amigurumis because I was in a hurry.

But of course I always have time to shop. I bought an amigurumi book for my collection. Too bad I only bought one so I can't make a giveaway quiz again.

The book is written in Thai letter, but there are some diagram, so it's pretty easy to make the doll based on this book.  I don't know whether it is a translation from japanese book or not. I just think it would be a nice collection.  It's full of cute bears  just like the title :)

Another Trip with Choco-Strawberry

Can you guess where we are?

And of course I stop by to buy some books

Meanwhile.... If you can guess where am I going,
You can win a crochet book!!!

Only 1 winner with Indonesian address could win this book :)
Since the book is not written in Bahasa, I hope the winner is a crocheter who can crochet with limited instruction.

The contest ends at november 6. Be spesific, since I will pick the winner just based on the answer ;).

I will post more photos for the clues, so you can do some googling, cheat a little bit :p

OKAY! The contest is over. The winner is obviously Pratiwi Weyanti (really, it's okay to cheat, as I suggested to do so) I will send you the book soon :)

Kopas The Thief

I almost always making the amigurumi version of my animation character.  If you wonder what am I doing from May to August, the answer is finishing "Kopas The Thief" animation project for the ASEAN Animation Festival 2014.
(yeah... finally I can blame Kopas for making me missing my blog)

The amigurumi was not required, but I made it as a lucky charm.  You can read more about the animation on the other blog.
I made it a few days before the proposal deadline, so instead fixing my proposal, I knitting this doll.  In the end I never show this amigurumi to the audience because I used the wrong yarn color and it's not really similar to the character design.  But I think this amigurumi is really a lucky charm, cause later I went to Bangkok twice and I *beeep beeep beeep beeep* at November 26th thanks to this animation project.

:p  well just wait, you will see what happen at that date.

UPDATE August 25th 2015: nothing happened on November 26. actually I was invited to some kind of ministry event (Indonesian) but later they didn't contacted me about the details. I don't know what happened.  who am I anyway?

The missing months

this is another "lame excuse for not updating my blog for months"
so July I went to Bangkok, then spent a month at Jakarta finishing an animation, then went to Bangkok again at August.
at September I was finishing an animation for side project, finishing some proposals, then suddenly got an idea to make another quick-short animation.
When September over, all I think was taking a break. a short break, because another project will start soon.
it would be an ideal time to crochet something if only the weather is not this warm.  The temperature can reach 35 Celcius in Jakarta.  and I don't use Air Conditioner, only electric fan. Go green (NAH... I just don't want to spend more money)

I only have one free week.  instead of updating my blog, I... bought a PS Vita. Okay, I'm guilty. I confessed.

I Love To Shop More Than To Shot

Last week I was at Bangkok, Thailand to attend an Animation Workshop.
for this very special occasion, I crocheted an orangutan doll, named Choco-Strawberry.
I'd like to bring Pinkong, but I only have a small baggage, I don't have time to go to Bandung and borrow bigger baggage.
I didn't bring a lot of clothes cause I spare some space at my briefcase just in case I buy some souvenirs.
Guess what,  I shop a lot of things, even the shopping bag is heavier than my baggage.
And I have a confession to make.  Before I go to Bangkok, I borrowed a monopod from my dad, and I bought a shutter remote.  I also bring a compact digital camera.
I was planning to make a lot of picture of me (of course), and the picture of Choco-Strawberry in exotic places in Bangkok.
but I didn't.
so I guess, I love to shop more than to shot :p

Fuleco the Armadillo

after missing so many events , now it's time for 2014 FIFA World Cup!
as the commemoration I made Armadillo amigurumi (based on Fuleco, the 2014 World Cup mascot).

armadillo1

armadillo 4

armadillo 3

Sorry for the blurry pictures, because it is raining everyday, and cloudy all day long, and I didn't use the flash.

Making the head part was very difficult, and I really proud of the eyes part.  I love the big and bright eyes.  I sew the eyes while singing "Waka Waka".  Yes, Waka Waka by Shakira, the 2010 World Cup theme song, because.... I don't remember how the 2014 theme song is.  The supermarket plays the songs, but I can't remember it.

and by the way, is it only me, or the armadillo looks like some kind of Pokémon?

I also made Zakumi, back at 2010

Do You Remember Nody The Orangutan boy?

I barely remember to update my blog, and actually I should have updated this blog 2-3 weeks ago but I got a deadline.

Finally it's over! YAY!
(it's kinda sad actually, after spending a year working with the same client and then it's over, but I'll move on)
This morning I thought of making a new amigurumi, but I can't find THAT yarn with THAT particular color shade so ...

WAIT, that's not what this post was meant to be!
Okay, back to business.  Do you remember Nody?
2-3 weeks ago I received a newsletter from BOSF.
Nody is now a big boy, he has graduated from the forest school and he is ready to go to the pre-release island.  one step closer to be a free orangutan :)
thanks for participating on the orangutanku project and of course thanks for the BOSF (The Borneo Orangutan Survival Foundation).

courtesy of BOSF

okay.. now let's back to the yarn and needle business
but later, after I have some coffee.

The extra hands are at the top of the closet

Yes, I hired some extra hands and I put them at the top of the closet.
Once again, sorry, I'm unable to update this blog because of so many excuses.

I keep buying new yarns until my closet now are full of yarns, but I never knit anything, not anymore.
I WILL BE BACK. definitely not soon. but I will.

I think I'm gonna be Insane

I haven't write for too long, I haven't make any amigurumi for too long.
I'm gonna be insane.

I'm not the busiest person in the work, you see I still have time to blogging.
There's a new project in the office, and the schedule are changed so there are more work to do.
meanwhile, I still doing some freelance projects.

I still have time to make amigurumi but my hands are tired doing the job on the day.
My real job, my freelance job and making amigurumi, all are using both hands.
I'm not a spider, I only got a pair of hands.
well, I hope someday I can knit using my feet.

Oh by the way, I hired some extra hands recently.  will tell you later about it ;)
