a too nice Sunday to skip

so yesterday was my first time going to a knitter/crocheter gathering at Jakarta.
I was having a fever the day before, I lost my voice, and almost canceled my plan. Luckily, I didn't.
it was a too nice day to just skip it. Before I left my room, I read a tweet that the government made a free TransJakarta ride all day long, and it's true!
the bad thing was, it was Sunday, everybody's going out, everybody's riding the TransJakarta (shuttle bus) and the air conditioner malfunctioned :(
however, I finally arrived at the meeting point, meet new friends. I knew some from the online forum, but it was the first time meeting them. too bad I can't speak at all, so I can't say Hi to my new friends. I also didn't bring any yarns or tools so I can't knit along with them.
And then, surprise! We already know that there were going to be a presentation from Tulip Japan, but we didn't expect to get a free pink crochet hook originally from Japan. If I didn't lost my voice I would have screaming, "KAWAII DESU!!!"

the hook size is 3.50 mm (number 6), perfectly fit for the double ply yarns I recently used. I already have a set of crochet hooks, but it wasn't as cute as the new pink crochet.
as you can guess, I spent my night making amigurumi using the new hook :)
it wasn't the first time I used "etimo" crochet hook from Tulip, but I was a lot happier, cause it's PINK!
creativity is not limited by the tools, but the perfect tools can boost the creativity (at least for me).

by the way, I also got a free dishwasher soap from the restaurant. I love freebies :)

anyway, I think I have to make some clarification:
1. The Orangutanku project is my own initiative, it's not an official project from BOSF, but I did send them a notification when I started this project :)
2. My birthplace is Brest, not Breast okay... put away that extra a, it's totally different!
3. right now, I'm not 28 years old yet, I'm just 27 years and 2 months old.

welcome to the instant-noodle-life

When I finally decided to move to Jakarta and rent a room,
my friend said, "welcome to instant-noodle-life!"
cause it's a common for "anak kost" (people who rent a room monthly) to have instant noodle for lunch or dinner.
Most anak kost are so busy or so lazy to cook, that they prefer to buy food than to cook it.
and what we call cooking is actually, cooking instant noodle, or just boiling hot water to make a cup noodle.
it is rare to find anak kost who really cooking real food.
Me? I have to admit, I can't cook at all so I buy my meal everyday.
but when it's near the end of the month and I haven't received my salary, I have to try extra hard not to buy cup noodle to save my money and my stomach.

Cup noodle is cheap, about 50% cheaper than my average lunch, it's delicious, it's easy to "cook", but it's unhealthy.
the magic of cup noodle is, when you "cook" a cup noodle at the office, most people love the smell, and somehow it temps another to make cup noodle too. very dangerous :p

PS: don't worry, mom, I only ate cup noodle/ instant noodle once this month.

big amigurumi mission part one

I've been making amigurumis for almost 5 years.

and since the last two years I made at least one amigurumi every week.

Can you imagine how crowded would my room be if I keep all of my amigurumis?

Actually it wouldn't be too crowded since I only made small amigurumis.

the biggest amigurumi I ever made is only 30 cm tall, and the rest are just about 10 cm talls.

it's not that I didn't want to make bigger amigurumi, but here in Indonesia it's hard to find bigger yarns, and I'm too lazy to just adding more stitches and rows to make the amigurumi bigger, and please don't offer me bulky yarns, I hate it.

I spent last week looking for the perfect yarns in both online and offline markets, and finally found two candidates.

the first yarn is a 100% acrylic yarns, which doesn't have much color variations. I bought it in an offline store at Blok M Plasa, Jakarta, and as suggested by the store owner, I knit it using two plies of yarns in a time to make it bigger. it works, but I haven't finish it yet, so let's talk about this yarn later.

then today (or was it yesterday?) the yarns I order from an online store arrived, cotton yarns. I originally love to use cotton yarns for my amigurumi. but this new cotton yarns' size are about two times bigger than my favorite yarn.

as I arrived in my room, I started to crochet the yarns using my old sheep pattern. I didn't modify the pattern at all, and obviously the finished amigurumi is npw two.. no four time bigger than my original amigurumi.

I spent 5 hours to finish the big sheep

made using the exactly same pattern,

the big one using hook number 6, while the small one using hook number 2.

what I love the most from my this big yarn is, it is a local yarn, so it's cheap :D

it also has a lot of color variations, but I only bought 5 colors for now (I don't bought the big black yarns, that's why I used brown for the face and foots).

the only problem is I don't have big eyes for my big amigurumi, but I think I'll figure it out next month :)

OMGrumi: Jupe

when I started the OMGrumi of famous people, I thought it was easy to just make an amigurumi (crocheted toys) based on some random famous people.
Later, I find out that I don't want to make a doll version of just random famous people. I need to like the real person first, that's why this time I choose Julia Perez or Jupe.

She's an entertainer, and she's fenomenal.
I never watch her movie, nor listening to her song, so I'm not really a fans but I'm a pro Jupe.
Many people think bad about her because of her appearance (it's her gift anyway, don't blame her for being sexy), but when I watch her in a talk show, I believe she's actually a smart and brave lady.
yesterday, she made the news again because of her costume when she's watching Katy Perry's concert.
And I instantly decided, I must make an amigurumi of her :)
Let's just hope there's no stupid law against her costume.

PS: I know Jupe's costume which was designed by Aming was inspired by Katy Perry, but the one who inspired the making of this doll is Jupe. Sorry that I consciously miss the best details on the costume :p

The rotten android

I made another tiny android as a complimentary gif for a gift swap in my office's outing/ family gathering.
the outing was held last weekend, so it's already too late, I just finished this android tonight so I will keep it for myself.
I'm not happy with the colors, cause I don't have the bright/ neon green yarns, and this green I have is just too.... rotten.
I also made it without pattern, and I did miscounted the row so it's a little bit sloppy :p

Merry Cristmas and Hapy New hair

I didn't make anything Christmas this year (actually never made it)
it's silly to make snowman and the bearded Santa Claus in red suit cause it's hot in here.
I don't like gingerbread (the taste) and that candy cane, I don't want to have a toothache.
I think Indonesian need new Christmas tradition, cause there's nothing unique in Christmas in Indonesia (or I haven't find it yet).

Anyway, it's new year's eve!
Thank you, 2011 for the very challenging year.
Being unemployed for the half of 2011, then get a new job at the very last of 2011, oh that's so challenging!
I tried many things this years, from opening a booth in a bazaar, took some keyboard and vocal course (but I quit lol)
Finally bought my very first desktop with my own money.
Took a trip to Karimun island with my friends, getting sunburns.
Won an amigurumi contest and another animation contest.
Moved to Jakarta and living alone for the very first time.
Meet a lot of new friends, and get many chances and facing many options.

So when anybody asking what to do for next year, it's hard to answer it, cause I think I need something new and more exciting.
it's a tradition to have something new for the new year.
I just start to work again I can't afford a new shoes or new clothes yet, so the easiest thing to do is to have new hair :)

Bandersnatch head guide

when I made Bandersnatch amigurumi last year, I didn't know that there are a lot of people beside me who like Bandersnatch too, and ask about my amigurumi version.

And I feel really bad that I couldn't help them, I made it too many time ago, that I don't remember the pattern,

so I can't share the pattern.
I also unable to sell it cause I only made one, and I don't have more stock of yarns to make a new one.

Today I read another comment from Tonya saying now that she's learn to crochet to make her own Bandersnatch amigurumi.

Orangutanku #11 1/2 : Mini Orangutan

I recently getting older.
Got a back pain, stiff arms, and a creativity block.
(sigh!)

Since I'm living at Jakarta, I don't read newspaper and I don't watch TV cause there's no TV and newspaper.
The internet connection is so limited in my place, I could only read some news from the newsfeed from social medias, not the most reliable source, but it's better than nothing.

I found out that recently Indonesian people started to care (more) about Orangutans, because of some bad incidents exposed. I hope it would rise people awareness to save orangutan and you might find some more effective way to help than my Orangutanku project.

right now, I'm unable to make Orangutanku doll because I don't have the materials so I made a mini orangutan. Using Anna Hrahovec's tiny amigurumi technique, I knit the mini orangutan.
It took 2 days to make it, a lot much longer than usual, and a hell of back pain cause I don't have a couch to sit on while knitting, but it was nothing compared to the people at the orangutan conservatory have done. I'm proud of them :)

The Key Chain

I still haven't got used to the new time zone.
Bandung and Jakarta are in the same time zone, but it feels totally different spending 24 hours in Jakarta compared to when in Bandung.
I used to have spare time at night to watch movie while making amigurumi, now I only have time to make amigurumi in the morning, just a few minute before I go to work.
so this week, I only made a key chain which is also a key.
I hope this key could open the door to creativity, cause I'm having a creativity block right now :(

OMGrumi: Syahrini

2011 is almost over, it's too early to conclude the year,
but so far, for me this year is "sesuatu banget", or let me say it's Syahrini's year.
Syahrini is an Indonesian singer, a good one actually.

Syahrini a.k.a Miss Sesuatu (Sesuatu = Something)

This year she gained a lot of attention because of her phrases, "sesuatu banget".
Nothing special about the phrase's meaning, but it was become a trend, everyone now saying "Alhamdulilah ya, sesuatu banget".
Alhamdulilah is an Arabic word to express gratitude , and "sesuatu banget" means really something.
More or less the phrase means, Thankfully, it is (or was) really something.

Lately Syahrini become a trending topic again because of her "Jambul khatulistiwa" (Equatorial Hair bangs). Nothing special about that hair bang, except that she wore it to welcome David Beckham and La Galaxy soccer team. Many people mock Syahrini because of her appearance and attitude, especially because there are not many people so lucky to get a chance to meet Beckham (see the picture here)

ANNOUNCEMENT: Goodbye and Hello

Not really a goodbye, but definitely a Hello.

I will move to Jakarta next week, to work, not for good,
I will be back to Bandung on weekends (not every week, but Bandung is surely my home).

It could mean a big change for my life, or let's say for this blog.
I might not be able to make and post a new amigurumi every week.
cause right now, I can't decide which yarns to bring to Jakarta or left back in Bandung.
I have a lot of tools and craft supplies which I can't bring them all to Jakarta, so for now I can't promise to keep making new amigurumi every week.

it's a difficult decision to leave Bandung, but I believe by living in Jakarta I will meet new friends, and get new ideas.
I'm not married and not looking to get married any soon, so I guess it's a perfect time to try different city.

on the other news, my amigurumi won't be available for adoption anymore because they will stay in Bandung.
so this blog back to its original purpose which is to be my personal amigurumi gallery, nothing commercial.
I'm doing this for fame but no longer for money.

born in France, people expect me to be able to speak French.
I moved to Indonesia when I was 4 years old, then got brainwashed by Indonesian education, so I don't remember anything about France.
it's common in Indonesia, that children learn to read and write in kindergarden or pre-school. But I didn't back then.
I barely speak Indonesian, and I think I was the only one who unable to read.
all I can remember of my early years in Indonesia were being punished by teachers and crying. Oh I hate those days.
I had to learn to speak, reading and writing in Bahasa, so my French is erased by the time.
anyway, I kept a storybook, one of my favorite book, tho I can't read it.

"Le Chat Botte" or Cat in Boots. I love the illustrations where the cat is not just plain cute but also a little bit evil and smart.
Since last week I watched "Puss in Boots", I think I need to make the amigurumi, but based on Tonny Ross' illustration.

shame on me, I failed, but this post is dedicated to the great Tonny Ross :p
as an animator, also as a knitter, I wish someday I could make characters as good as the characters he made.

The Forgotten Rhino

before, I wrote about orangutan, bekantan, komodo, an sumatran tiger.
How could I missed the Javan Rhino (Rhinoceros sondaicus)?
I live in Java, precisely West Java which used to be the same province as Ujung Kulon, where the Javan Rhino live.
There's a live sized Rhino statue standing across the road in front of my High School.
How could I missed the Rhino?

Thanks to Pikiran Rakyat (a local newspaper) which wrote articles about this endangered animal, now I have no reason not to make a post about Rhino.
based on the article, there's only about 50-60 Javanese Rhino left on Earth, which makes the Rhino as the rarest mammals.
The same species used to lived at Vietnam, India, Bangladesh and Myanmar too, but now they only lived at Ujung Kulon.

Javan Rhino has only one horn, but some female rhinos don't have any horns at all.

rhino is a solitary animal, and it needs a very wide habitat

Their extinction maybe just a matter of time because their habitat were turned into farms and there also illegal hunting for their ivory.
there are some disagreement and controversy between the government, the local residence, and the wild life conservatory organization about the solution to protect the Rhino habitat.

it's hard to design this doll, cause I failed at drawing the real style Rhino,

I can't crochet things I can't even draw using pencil.

So I don't know how to help the Rhino, all I can do is making a Rhino doll and write about it. Probably by spreading the words, we could later found a better solutions for the Rhino. if you have more information about how to help the Rhino, please do tell me, so I can help spreading the information via this blog.

another froggy day

I never bored of this creature.
Frog!
a few years ago, I found a frog doll at a gift store,
a white frog in sweater.
I kinda regret that I can't buy it that time, cause I didn't have money back then.
this frog is not based on that frog, the shape is completely different, but reminded me of that doll.
I was planning on making this frog for my sister's birthday, but I messed up with the yarn combination.
You can't see it at the pictures, the back part is very messy :p

Free pattern: Teru Teru Bozu

in Indonesia, when you are going to held an outdoor event, it's common to specially hire a person to prevent the rain.
it can not be just any guy, you need a person who has power to control the rain, a pawang hujan.
even if it's raining everywhere, the place with a pawang hujan is completely dry.
Some says that as long as the pawang hujan not having contact with water, it won't be raining at all.
whether it's true or not, I really don't know about it.

while hiring Pawang Hujan requires money, Japanese kid have Teru Teru Bozu to prevent the rain, which is a lot cheaper.
Both ways don't have any guarantee in keeping the rain away, but it would be fun to make a cute Teru Teru Bozu than just sitting and hoping it wouldn't be raining.
so, just in case you want to make Teru Teru Bozu in amigurumi style, here's my pattern.

I love the rain, I love singing in the rain.
(especially because when it's rain, people won't notice how "good" my voice is)

Tho I'm having fun during the wet season, less dust, no allergies,
there might be some days that I wish it wouldn't be raining at all.
thanks to the Teru Teru Bozu's help, he keeps the rains away.

actually I made this teru teru bozu last week, but the face had a creepy smile (maybe because I made it right after I made Pocong). So I reconstructed the face last night. He looked better right now :)

2011 is the Komodo's year

I made a post about Komodo last year, how I wished that Komodo Island become one of the New7Wonders.
Few days ago, it was announced that Komodo Island finally become one of the New7wonders (nature category).
Right now I'm not so sure if being the new7wonder is the best thing for the Komodo and the people living at the island.
the Komodo Island is really wonderful, just look at the pictures from my sister's trip.
the thing is, Indonesia is the worst country for animals especially when it's involve money.
let's hope that the government keep their promise not to damage the Komodo's habitat just because they want more money from tourism to the Island.

meanwhile, right now there's a big sport event held in Indonesia, the 2011 Sea Games.
the mascots are Komodos, I won't put their picture here, cause I hate the white Komodos, it's just silly.
I must admit that creating a friendly anthropomorphic character based on Komodo is hard, and my Komodo design might be worst than the mascot.
But no, I don't want to make amigurumi based on Modo& Modi to celebrate the event.

Pocong!

Halloween is over, this ghost is late for the Halloween Party,
cause he can't walk like zombie, and can't fly like dracula.
He jumps, he is the famous Pocong!

that's not blood, only part of the bricks.

as a horror movie fans I have consider making Indonesian ghost in amigurumi.
But Indonesian ghost are not cute at all especially compared to Casper.
I'm blessed cause I can't see ghosts (I'm not even sure they actually exist).
at first I didn't want to make Pocong, cause it's scary.
But when I see how cool is my bathroom's wall now, I had too. I mean, not everyday, you have your bathroom wall under renovation and looked like a Horror movie set :p

Pocong is the most popular Indonesian ghost. He has been appeared in a lot horror movie, from the scary one to the silly one. And now Pocong also has twitter. well, this amigurumi is inspired by the movie based on that twitter account. I just watch the trailer recently.

Pocong itself is a dead human covered with white fabric from heads to toe, and then tied up. that's why he jumps. it sounds silly and harmless, but believe me you don't want to meet this ghost.

Rice Cooker

I had a very unproductive week last week,
I had a stomachache due to the stress being unemployed (don't worry, the stomachache is gone now that I got a job, YAY!)

but I blamed the Rice Cooker.
that day, I chose to skip lunch because, I was bored eating rice.
like, I have been living in Indonesia for 22 years, and we eat rice every day,
"karena orang Indonesia Makan Nasi" (= cause Indonesian eat rice).

it's not considered as "having lunch/dinner" if we didn't eat rice.
in Indonesian modern living, Rice cooker is a must have tools.

You will be considered as an idiot cook, if you can't even cook some rice using rice cooker.

Kuda Lumping

Today, October 28 is a celebration of "Sumpah Pemuda",
a day when all Indonesian young generation vow to have one Country, one Language, and one Nation: Indonesia.
Alvine Craft, one of Indonesian Crafting community, held an amigurumi competition to celebrate the Sumpah Pemuda.
the theme was Indonesian' traditional clothes.
I made Kuda Lumping and Kuda Lumping's Dancer for the entry.
The dancer of course wearing traditional clothes so didn't break the rule, right?

Kuda Lumping is a traditional dance from East Java, where the dancer ride a Kuda Lumping (horse, made from bamboo).
The dancer also bring a whip in his hands. (I made the whip, but it's so ugly)
while it visually looked cute, I bet children would like to have a kuda lumping for toys, but it's actually also a trance dance.
the dancer later under trance condition eat glasses, the sharp glass shard, and they're okay, not hurt at all.

and in fact I also burn some incense to make smoke effect,

thank fully the doll was not possessed during the photo shoot.

woo.. scary right? I never watch a Kuda Lumping directly, I don't think I could watch it.
But I'm proud of this traditional dance, it's a mythical and artistic dance.
If you were going to visit East Java, you have too watch Kuda Lumping, that if you have strong guts :p

as I promised, I'll make some halloween themed amigurumis.
Halloween is all about scary things, for me, the second scariest things is dead rat.

it's never a pleasant thing to see a dead rat, so I'm relieved I didn't go into science class

so I didn't have to cut any rat.

a good luck charm

Do you have a tradition, habits, or something you really needs to do before taking an important test or job?
maybe like searching for a 4 leaved clover, or maybe hug your parents before going to school?

For me, there are two. First, keeping a secret.
The second things is, making a good luck charm.

I feel bad that I lied to my family and my friends about my participation in a local animation festival.
but, I was so scared to make them disappoint if I failed

I was very tired at the night before the presentation due to the stress, but I didn't know why, I thought I had to make a good luck charm.
the main character of the animation was a girl, but I didn't have time to make the doll,
so I made the bird (the figurine character) to accompany me during the presentation in front of the jury.

I was really nervous and I had no confidence,
I can't even watch at the other animations, they are so good compared to mine.
I almost run, and went home right after the presentation's done, really,
but maybe it was thanks to the little bird's luck, I stayed.
I got the best character award from the Industry Creative Festival.

my Father's day

my Father's birthday again!
this year He is 60 years old, very healthy and hopefully always happy.

Like his birthday before, I always make him some rooster themed creation,
because he is " mon papa poule" and I love to call him "ayamanda"

I was busy taking care of many things, I almost unable to make anything this year.
but thanks to Anna hrahovec's book, I borrowed her Idea to make a tiny amigurumi,
so it could be done in few hours.

I made the rooster using my own pattern tho there's already a chicken pattern in the book, so it would looked more personal.
I still used the same design, based on the famous chicken bowl, red and black.
and this time it's more for a flash disk charm.

I think there would be at least 40 more rooster for the next 40 years (or more), so I hope my Dad would stay healthy forever :)

by the way, my mom is 60 too, I never made her amigurumi not because I love her any less than my dad, it's just because she's my knitting teacher, and it's not funny to give her my creations.

PS: there's also another good thing just happened today, some of you may already know, but let's keep it until tomorrow

Orangutan #10: Doutzen

it's orangutan's time again!
my friend Prue requested to adopt a yellow orangutan

Prue is my friend since elementary school, junior high then college
if it weren't because of her suggestion, I might not take the school art test for the second time after failed the first one.
I might finished the management school, become a manager or marketing person.
Thanks to her now I'm actually an animator and made this blog :)
Prue is a news reporter, a twitter-holic, and recently has a blog too.
and by the way, she's a good painter/ artist too, hopefully one day she has a time to paint again.

there are so many things to do, and another week has passed.

I barely made another tiny amigurumi yesterday.
yup, another tiny, because the time was not enough to make the regular amigurumi.

a genie in a salt bottle.
set him free, he'll grant you three tiny wishes.
if he really could grant my three wishes, I would wish for a permanent job, wealth and to put him back in the bottle.

I found the bottle in a supermarket without genie, so you'll know who trapped the genie into the bottle. Me.

do you ever been so busy, you had many task, but instead doing the task you are doing something else you knew it's not urgent thing to do?

I did. just did.
it was because of the Teeny Tiny Mochimochi book.
Making tiny amigurumi is very addictive!
I made the tiny phone when waiting for the slow internet connection,
and later I found that I can't stop making tiny amigurumi.
instead of finishing some commission, I made tiny android and later tiny twitter bird.

The Teeny Tiny Phone

when my friends looking at my amigurumis, they said my amigurumi are too small.
they mostly suggest me to make something bigger, at least use bigger size of yarn.
Anna Hrachovec of Mochimochiland says the otherwise.
She is the author of the Teeny Tiny Mochimochi (knitted amigurumi book)

since I learn to make knitted toy from her first book, I'm so happy to find that her second book is also available at Times Bookstore Indonesia.
I'm not a good book reviewer, cause I would wrote that I really love the book, but really the book is fun to read and also inspiring.
it's a must have book for knitter (or knitter to be).
instead writing a long review, I made a tiny telephone based on the pattern from the book.

instead knitting the dial, I used button and add some beady eyes.
the finished size is unbelievably tiny, what is also unbelievable is that I could make it!

a perfect size compared to my miniature

now compare it to the telephone I made months ago, do you still think my amigurumi is too small? :)

I just watch Kungfu Panda 2, and I can write a long story (with spoilers) about how I love the movie.
but since I don't like to be a spoiler I will just write about the little panda plushy that instantly caught my eyes.

at the very same second as we saw that plushy, my brother told me, I should make that little Panda Plushy. I couldn't agree more. I want one! for me.

the little panda in the movie perhaps sewn, not knitted, but since I can only knit/crochet, so here it is.

I tried to make it as similar as in the movie, but in the end I can't recreate the exact same face, the black part at its body is to big, and last thing:
I'm not sure about the details at the body, is it a Chinese character or just some random embroidery.
I can't read Chinese so I'd rather not making the embroideries at all.

both of my sisters said that my Panda doesn't looked as old and dull as the little Panda at the movie. so it would be a great help if anybody could lend me a time machine to get that dull look :)

Android 2.0

I made android . again .
of course I wouldn't name it Android 2.0 if there's no improvisation.

yup, this Android 2.0 got some ornament at its abdomen, how do you think?

since the first android has been given away, I made this one for myself.
I (still) can't afford buying android phone, so for now I have android charm.
it's not an official item, but that's all I can afford for now *sigh*
I don't know yet whether to use it as phone strap charm or for my flash disk.
it would be cute for necklace too, or any other idea?

Experiment Bunny on My Zombie Days

Lately things move on zombie mode.
next week would be what we call Lebaran Holiday.
Most office in Indonesia, including government office will have a very long extended holiday.
the real free day was actually only 2 days, but due to "Mudik" tradition, the office usually give extra off days.
Mudik means "going home", so a lot of people will go back to their hometown to celebrate Lebaran with their parents then visit their ancestor's grave.
if you ever read about how crowded Jakarta is, most Homo Jakartaensis are actually from everywhere in Indonesia.
My parents are actually from Central of Java, so I spent my childhood "mudik" to my grandparents house there.
it's still at the same island, but it took a half a day to go there by car or train, while there are also a lot of people who "mudik" to another island, which of course took a longer time to get there.
That's why Lebaran Holiday would be a very long extended holiday.
Now, at a week before Lebaran, all I see is Zombie, because everybody (especially working people) already thinking of the Holiday next week.

What about me? I'm still living with parents, so I don't have to Mudik :p
so don't worry, I will post something during the Holiday.

about the amigurumi, I was doing some experiment.
My crafty friends suggest me to use double yarns to make bigger amigurumi.
so Yup, this amigurumi is actually 3 times bigger than my normal knitted bunny (but it still small).
Since it is an experiment, I tried to make some accent with cable knitting at the sweater's part.
I think I will use the cable knitting again on my next amigurumi.

Okay, that's for now I have to do my Laundry.. no, not because my housekeeper Mudik, we don't hire any housekeeper (so I'm the housekeeper) :p

Chessy The Cat

it's been long since I made my last gigi series,
So now it's time for a new one, Chessy the Cat

Gigi series is all about teeth, so of course I had to make Chesire Cat from Alice in Wonderland.
Cat is my less favorite character, but Disney's Chesire is an exceptional, maybe because of his smile.
Chessy's stripped purple top is based on Disney's Chesire.

I'm not fasting, but I've been waiting for this month to come.
because fasting month is cookies month!
like Christmas, on Lebaran we usually visit or being visited by family or friends.
so before Lebaran came, we usually prepared some snack to serve the guest.
the popular snack for Lebaran is cookies.
not just any cookies, it's Nastar or kastengel.
Nastar and Kastengel are cheese based cookies.
Nastar is more complicated than Kastengel because it has some pinneapple jam inside.

the real one is made by Dora, my sister in law, very delicious!

for the tradition-sake, I make some Nastar too, crocheted Nastar of course.
you could also try to make some too :)

zoom to read the pattern, or you could also print the simplified pattern

The real Nastar's top usually coated by yolk to make it shiny and then has some cheese sprinkle at it.
I used two tones of yellow yarns to recreate the baked effect and sew some beads for the sprinkles.

FYI, I used 7 beads in every Nastar and there are 36 Nastar in the jar (not important fact, but I MUST write it).

while for the real recipe.... umm, I'm not proud of it, but I can't cook at all, so I have to ask my sister in law or my mother for the recipe.

Just in case you try the pattern, please do share the pictures :)
oh, and you may sell the Nastar, but do not sell the pattern.

The Lonely Post Box

so it's Ramadhan again.
Post office used to be so busy during Ramadhan.
People used to send packages or postcards to their friends or family for the Idul Fitri (or Christmas or any other events)
Some people still do, but it's not like before the Mobile phone.
Again, I'm blaming the technology.

People no longer sending cards, since there are SMS or even tele-conference.
and the poor post box can't help feeling lonely and forgotten.

it's only a suggestion, maybe it would be nice to send cards or letters this year.
don't you remember how happy you were when you received a lot of cards?

by the way, the design was based on Indonesian Post box, which I find has unique design compared to post box at different countries. it's just too bad we rarely use it nowadays.

Z is for Zebra

when I started this alphabet amigurumi challenge, the plan was to end it with Z for zpiderdzigh.
But I already made some spiders back then, and when I tried to make a big spider, it didn't work well.
I was still knitting the spider's leg when the electricity went out yesterday. And I still trying to finish it after dinner.
still the spider doesn't looked any good.
I almost give up, that I thought I couldn't post anything today, till I tried to make Zebra and finished it by midnight.

Z is for Zebra.

I made it based on a quick sketch after dinner.
I give the Zebra the red eyes, because I have stock of red eyes, and thought it would be a cute accent to the black and white base.

now the alphabet series is completed, what's next?
while I'm thinking about the next series, maybe I'll make something for Lebaran/ fasting month.

Y is for Yeti

Y is for Yeti!

I thought it was gonna be Y fo Yoyo, but there are already too many inanimate amigurumi.
The Yeti is similar to my orangutan design, because based on wikipedia's description,
Yeti is an ape like creatures.

I just finish it last night, and I woke up planning to take a picture of Yeti with a lot of ice.
Guess what, global warming, no ice, not even in the fridge.

so... it's a Yeti in tropical island, He loves to play with fishes in the jar.

okay, that would be one more amigurumi to complete the series. I'm thinking a big one, but we'll see.

I have a lot of time to waste since I'm not employed yet (nice people, Hire ME!)
instead of just making amigurumi, I tried a new hobby,
making miniatures!
it's not new, I made one last year, and I just ordered 3 pack of DIY miniature kits.
I'm a clumsy person, so it was a hard thing to do, but I actually enjoyed attaching furnitures miniatures then take the picture with my amigurumi.

I think this set fits Penelope's girlie image :)
there were actually some accessories and dress to complete the set, but it would be hard to keep all that little pieces and set them all over everytime I took new pictures.

about the new amigurumi, I'll keep my promise, I will make them soon, as soon as I get the perfect yarn :)

What have I done?
I didn't make anything for the past few weeks!
Now, I'm back, I really am back working out the rest 3 letter from the alphabet series.

X for Xylophone.
yup another English word, because I don't know any word in Bahasa begins with letter X.
xixixixixi? that's not even a language, it's more like written onomatopoeia for laughing,
yeah, I don't even know why they changed "h" in "hihihihi" to "x"

as you see, the parts of this xylophone is so simple and easy to make,
the reason I didn't start to make it few weeks ago was because I was too lazy to create the base.
right, the white thing under the bars, which can't be clearly seen. *sigh*

it's school holiday! YAY!
oh right, I'm not a student anymore, but since it's my first time ever
not being employed nor in training or school
it's Vacation time for me :D

I will be on vacation with my friends.
I won't bring a hook or needle so there will be no update for days.

while I was supposed to prepare for the vacation, I accidentally designed some pins.

Yes it was the pictures inside frames from the last post.
I designed the pictures only for the photoshoot, but later order some pins using those pictures (there are 10 pics).

it was not planed and.... I will give some as Vacation giveaway!!!

in the other hand, I also made some postcards using my amigurumi photos.
There are 24 different pictures, and I will also give some as giveaway :D

Few months ago I found Lolanova's Mary Go Round frame pattern.
it looked so simple and pretty
the pattern is so easy to understand and also fun to do,
why wouldn't I try to make it? :)

Nyok Kita Nonton Ondel Ondel!

Happy Belated Birthday Jakarta!
I'm not a homo jakartaensis, so I didn't know it was Jakarta's birthday (June 22)
if I knew, I would have finished the Ondel-ondel on time.

Ondel-ondel is a traditional art from Jakarta (Batavia), and the Ondel-ondel itself is a big puppet (about 2 meters tall) played by man inside it.
while my Ondel-ondel is the mini version, they are the finger Ondel-ondel!

There are male ondel-ondel who wears red mask, and female ondel ondel who wears white mask.
Both wear traditional Batavian clothing.
you can read more accurate explanation about the Ondel-ondel in wikipedia

I like the male Ondel-ondel more than the female, because the female Ondel-ondel's white face is scary and I think my ondel-ondel's hair looked like Medusa XD.

By the way, these Ondel-ondel were made for Festival Rajutan Indonesia (Indonesian Knitting Festival), I also designed the buildings and Monas amigurumi.
And for the Ondel-ondel's pattern..... hmmm... I think I will upload the pattern soon :)

Vivi the Vacuum Cleaner

the party is over.
I had fun, I still have this smile in my face.
but I can't help feeling sad, confused, and maybe tired seeing what was left.
and I know I have to clean them up.
Because if I don't, there won't be any party later.
Thankfully there's Vivi the Vacuum cleaner helping me to clean up the confetti.

when I was young, I believe that vacuum cleaner was the most modern thing in the house.
Not the TV.
The Vacuum cleaner looked so futuristic with a lot of buttons, noises, and... its cable.
The vacuum cleaner has a long plug in cable, and when you push the button, the cable rolls back into the vacuum cleaner. it's really Cool!

Ulat Ungu Nan Unyu

(=cute purple caterpillar)

unyu itself is a slang, so you won't find the word in dictionary.

it took a long time to finish this Ulat, because of the broken television.
I did many things while watching TV, so without it, I simply can't do those things.

it's no secret that I made most of my yarn toys while watching television.
My motto is "no DVD, no productDVD".
so.. it's true.
Instead of finishing the Ulat, I played nintendo for days, and barely finish this week amigurumi :p.

or you could ask me to make one for you, I'll only charge the crocheting fee and the ingredient cost :)

Did I say you may not sell it? well... who knows what people do with their own creation.
let's say, you may make android as much as you want, maybe for money, but you must remember it's not
an official merchandise and might be copyrighted, so you have to know the consequences :)
But I think it's fair enough if you were charging for the crocheting fee and the yarn cost.
(and also fair for the one who wants the android doll)
here's a tips: do not put it on your store, do not make one then sell it, only make it when someone need it and last thing, DON"T MAKE A MASS PRODUCTION of these android amigurumi dolls :p

by the way, How bout my android phone? I still haven't got one.

The rain was pretty heavy, but it was still a bright day.
I was searching for rainbow in the sky but found it at the asphalt, following the public car we were riding.
it was really a simply natural yet amazing moment.
something you didn't expect but make you smile.
and what happened recently makes me remember those rainbows.

I had a bad week, I can't say it was the worst week ever,
like it wasn't a storm, only a heavy rain.
something that makes me had a :( emoticon in my diary (if I ever wrote one)
but Thanks to Meilani of Pygmalioncraft
she sent me a surprise gift last week, so the :( streaks ended that day.

I really love the earrings and the sketchbook :)
Sketchbook is something I always need, and earrings is the only accessories I always wear.

Ada Telepon

back in college, I don't remember the subject, we have to pick an inanimate object, then draw it using various techniques and styles.
I pick telephone, and turns out, Telephone (the non-mobile one) is my favorite inanimate object until now.

am I imagining things, or this phone looked like pig?

Don't you miss the time when there's only one telephone for all family member? running everytime the phone rings, wishing that it is for you. Calling someone secretly, whispering so nobody know what and to whom you are talking to?
okay.. some people don't even remember it, I'm being a nostalgic old woman.

"since the phone went mobile, all we have is bad connection"

by the way, in Indonesia, instead saying, "the telephone rings!" or "there's a call for you", we say "Ada telepon!" (means there's a telephone).
so sometime we use it to trolling around yelling, "ada telepon!" and let someone run for it and find there's a telephone but it's not ringing at all.

Teleponnya mati (the phone is dead)

when you've got a call, but the caller hang it up, Indonesian would say, "Telepon-nya mati" which means "the telephone is dead".

Komodo Journey to Komodo Island

Remember Komodo amigurumi that I made ..umm years ago?
My sister, Severine, had a vacation to the Komodo Island last week.
She's kindly brought the Komodo amigurumi along through the journey.
They had some transit at no less exotic place like Kuta.
see that giant turtle statue? It was in Kuta, Bali.
The Komodo looked very happy to visit the island and meet its own kind.
Don't you think it's really cool? maybe I'll ask her bring my another amigurumi too when she visit other cool places :D
There are a lot more cool picture from her journey, really, Komodo Island is worth to visit.
Those Komodo are very lucky :)

Salak Galak

not an ordinary Salak, he is Salak Galak (Grumpy Salak)
why he was so Grumpy? don't ask him, unless you want to be yelled at.

maybe because he was forced to hanging out with the smooth-skinned eggs?
Salak is one of my favorite fruit, especially the Salak Pondoh which are sweeter than Salak Bali,
but you can't eat too much salak at a time, it would give you constipation :p

Monas 1.2

made this pattern for the Indonesian knitter community (Milis Mari Merajut)

Monas is an obelisk type monument built in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia.
it's actually my second attempt on making the monument, because the first one is way too tall, about 4 times taller than a skyscraper building (amigurumi building, of course)
there might be Monas 2.0 or more since it still need some perfection.
but if you think a Chibi-Monas-Amigurumi is cute enough, here's the pattern.

At the second day, I brought my crochet project with me, so it was more a demo than selling toys.

I never felt comfortable to crochet/knitting in public before, but since there were a lot of people playing with yarn here and there, it was pretty fun.

it's perfect for my first and only offline bazaar. it's been decided this way a long time before I decided to take part on this event :) But I'm sure we'll meet again.

Q without A

looking for any words in Bahasa begin with letter Q is tricky.
there are Qurban (=offering), Quran (=Koran), Qalbu (not sure what it means) but those words are actually Arabian.
From random words, there are Quidditch (I watched Harry Potters, but I'm not a fans, so it's a no), and Quinn from Farah Quinn, the chef in a TV program, but NO WAY (in bold yeah, NO WAY).
I could make some Queen based theme, because I watched the royal wedding, but it was too late.
I also thought of making a fan art of Master Q, one of my favorite comics, but it would be too complicated.
There are also some phrase like Q.E.D (Quad Erat Demonstrandum) and Quality over Quantity too, but it gave me headache so I prefer the basic.

Did I mentioned that I have a brother too? (like I forgot about having a brother hehe)
My brother and his wife have a Pancake booth called Panda Recipe, they sell Pancakes of course :)
If you are in Bandung, please visit them at Pasteur Hyper Point's Lower Ground floor and try the pancakes.

They ask me to make some designs, check it out at the Panda Recipe's tumblr page.
What they didn't know and didn't ask is that I designed the mascot so I could make the amigurumi version of it too.

And for this special occasion, I also modified my 3d puzzle to have Panda Recipe's theme using some graphics I made for the real booth.

the real bahasa for camel is Unta, but sometime we spell it as Onta, or sometime Ontah
and this amigurumi I dedicated to a good friend, Ontah

Her real name was Fany, Ontah was her nick name
I don't remember why did I call her Ontah (or sometime Hatno)
maybe because of her funny way of eating, looked like a cammel.

She was very kind and pretty.
She used to refer herself as "fanysayang" (dear Fany),
I thought it was very silly, but it's true that she's our dearest friend.
She passed away last year because of Lung Cancer, while she never smoke at all.
I really hate myself for not always be there for her.
I didn't make my promise to treat her when I won the animation contest,
and I didn't make her the crocheted toys she asked me.

Her favorite color was yellow, and she love to wear white hijab and blue shirt, it's her favorite costume and everybody seems to notice that
back in the college, there were a movie about her in the white hijab and blue shirt (reacted by someone else), she hated the movie, it's a funny movie tho.
I always remember her when I saw another people wearing similar white and blue costume.
That's why I made the camel amigurumi in white, not in camel colors.

do you remember Blues Clues? a kid's program, about a dog named Blue who likes to play hide and seek. he likes to hiding near blue object.
no, this Blue amigurumi not based on Blues Clues, but let's consider it missing.
he is in a certain place, but the serious fact is, this Blue amigurumi is being held by custom with ridiculously unrealistic import tax.
I totally understand if he will be kept held forever, let's hope someday he'll find a new home.

it's only 100 gram, the first package is 900 gram, the shipping cost is the same as the 900 gram.

look at the bright side, because of this incident, I decided to participate on an offline bazzar because opening a booth there would cost me the same as sending that blue dog to no where.

third, it's not April Fool anymore.

Ladies and Gentlemen, finally the package I sent 3 months ago arrived!
it was called winter amigurumi swap in a FlickR group.
my swap partner is Lourdes from Argentina
since it's a half world journey, I made the amigurumi as soon as I knew my partner, then sent it right away.
Jackie Chan only took 80 days to go around the world, so I never thought it would take longer time for the package to arrive.

I was the first who send the package and ended up being the last. like OMG 3 months delay?
I asked the post office, kinda terrorizing the customer service (so sorry), but no clues.
I already gave up and sent a 2nd package through the fast and expensive shipping service, then 4 days later the 1st package arrived... WHAT?

So... thank you to the post office, I'm really sorry for being customer from hell.
and Thank you, Lourdes, for being very patient, I'm really sorry for making you waiting this long. I hope you enjoy the parcel, I pick them all specially for you :)

N is for Ninja

and for the third time, I made Ninja for my alphabet amigurumi series.
why not? I love Ninja games, I played Ninja Gaiden and Shinobi

I haven't watch any Jaka Sembung (The Warrior) movie,
but I remember it has a sequel The Warrior and The Ninja,
and I think it would be interesting to put the Ninja and Jaka Sembung in the scene together.

Munding is Sundanese for Kerbau (bull)

My father sometime call me Kerbau, because I usually have lunch before taking shower at weekend.
you know, Indonesian take a shower at least twice a day, so it's really not a common to eat breakfast/ lunch without taking a shower before, unless you are Kerbau.

Kerbau is also a name for people who don't like to wake up early at the morning, like me.
Based on Reader Digest survey, Indonesian wake up earliest than most citizen in the world, about 5-6 AM.
Really? I wake up at 6 or 7 on weekdays, and at 8 or 9 on weekends.
But, students in Indonesia really wake up at 5-6 AM or maybe earlier, especially student at Jakarta because of that weird government' rule.

My father also like to call me Anak Kerbau (Kerbau's daughter, now who is the Kerbau).
because of my last... er middle.. errr... middle last name is "Anandani".
Which means "daughter".
But some people misspell it to "a-Nandi" or "a- Nandi-ni" or something with "Nandi",
really it happens even on my graduation ceremony
while Nandi is (again) a Kerbau, a sacred bull, which Shiva rides in Hindu mythology.

So instead of writing this post for letter M (Munding) why didn't I write it for K (Kerbau)?
because I have too many ideas for letter K, while I don't have any idea for letter M :)

Kue Gem

Recently, people are crazy about old, classic and vintage stuff.
from music, mode, design to food.
anything "jadul" (old fashioned) could easily became hit.
one of the jadul food is Kue Gem.

I'm not sure what its name, I just find that name written at its label.
Kue Gem has sugar icing on its top, and that is the most memorable taste of this snack.
I'm really glad to find they still produce Kue Gem nowadays in Bandung.
I'm not into sweets, but surprisingly I still like Kue Gem.
I think it is perfect for tea time or maybe for girls' party if you don't have cupcake, it's sweet and cute, children definitely would like it.
I don't know if you could find Kue Gem in your place and I don't have the recipe for the real biscuit but I have a Kue Gem amigurumi recipe for you :)

feel free to make as much Kue Gem as you can, put it in a jar or share it with your loved one.

They might give you the black "kecap" which is soy sauce, not ketchup the tomato sauce.
Kecap is the second best topping for Indonesian culinary after the chili sauce.
you will rarely find Indonesian food without kecap.
for some people, it's enough to eat only rice and kecap, or to be exact,
for some people (mostly children), they won't eat rice without kecap.
maybe it's like eating french fries without Ketchup.
But not for me, I prefer french fries with another french fries, no Ketchup please.

literally "Ini" means "this", and "Itu" means that.
but in daily conversation, "ini" and "itu" could mean a lot of things.
just ask my mom.. she's an expert on ini/itu language.

Her very best example:

(do that to it/this)
and in this case, my mom doesn't point at anything, so it's not clear wether she want you to do the dishes, water the plant, kill the dog, or anything else.

my Dad usually ask her back: "quel itu?" (which "itu"?)

the alternate title for this theme is Gore Gorilla
as my friend said it's not Gore without blood,
so I'm really sorry, this post will need parent guidance for children.

I'm a fans of cheesy horror movie with fake blood, crappy visual effect.
I even dream of making horror movie someday :)

the zombie gorilla still haunt human for revenge, with saw in its hand

it's your fault, cutting all the trees, YOU killed the gorilla

and in fact, it's really happens. (not the undead gorilla.. but the people who kill apes)

I don't know about gorilla, but it happens to orangutan.

some people killed the big orangutans and take their baby, sell it for money.

while other do not kill the orangutan directly, but cutting down the forest, so the orangutan couldn't live there anymore :(

My dad once had an entok in the backyard.

Entok hated me very much.
Entok was really like undead in zombie movies.
Entok will hunt you, chasing you no matter what you do.
it's like a zombie scene, where you threw an axe on its head an it didn't stop chasing you.
I threw a metal bucket on it, and it still ran after me.

I was really scare of entok that I sometimes had a nightmare of Entok chasing me.
but i was really sad when Entok dead (really I didn't kill it, no matter how it hated me).

behind the scene:
My dog, Kupir, get jealous when I was taking picture of Entok.
He didn't come when I called him, but when I was taking something inside the house,
he started to bark like he was angry at something, and I found Entok laying helplessly at the ground.

and Kupir refuse to take a picture of him together with Entok :)

D is for Dessy of course... but that would be narcissistic
so back to basic, D is for Domba (sheep/ lamb)
my very first reason to learn making amigurumi was for to make a lot of Domba doll,
because they are cute, and I'm collecting a lot of Domba toys.
But I never made any domba before because their curly fur are complicated.
Now since I learned a new stitch from a book, I finally tried making some Dombas

to make a little twist, I improvised the theme to be "Divide et Impera" or Divide and rule,
which in Indonesian History text book translated as "Adu Domba" (Lamb Fight)
literally, Indonesian has a traditional art called "Adu Kambing" or Sheep Fight (ram fighting).

Wolfie: Hey, Sheep, he said your football team is a loser!

Wolfie to the other sheep: That sheep said that you are a backstabber and a bigmouth!

Wolfie: That was easy >:)

Wolfie: D is for Divide et Impera, I divide then I conquer!

There's also a proverb "Serigala Berbulu Domba", wolf in Lamb fur, which means someone with a very bad intentions, pretends to be kind and harmless. so far, Wolfie is my favorite characters I made :)

just like the other giant monsters, Cabezilla is actually a mutant.
a Cabe mutant who lost her family because of Human's greed.

Cabe (or Cabai) is chili in Bahasa Indonesia.
Cabe is the most important spice in Indonesian culinary.
Me? I'm not really into hot and spicy food, but there are some that I like :p

it's not from Indonesian language but Sundanese, local language in west Java.

Beureum (red) and Bodas (white) are also the color of Indonesian flag.
Though I wasn't born in Indonesia, I'm 100% Indonesian :)

By the way, it's crazy and tiring to crochet 2 similar toys in a week, tho it's only reversed.

The Winter Swap

I had Flickr account for years, but I join the groups just recently.
One of the group I love (beside weloveamigurumi of course) is the amigurumi group (so predictable me)

they held an amigurumi swap, a winter swap.
so we have to make an amigurumi for certain person and at the same time the other person make you one too
it's like a secret santa, or "tukar kado" (gift swap).

there are certain requirement of items you have to send, but the basic rule is sending a gift as if the gift is for yourself.

it was fixed randomly, I have to send my package to -beep- (she hasn't received my package so let's keep it as secret) and I get a package from... Giulia :)

I just received the package yesterday it was from Rome, and I love everything!

the amigurumi (i haven't name it yet) is a stray dog, because I love dog, ah you should see its shoes and gloves! He's well prepare for the always summer in Indonesia.
I'm thinking of taking some picture of him in action later, you'll see :)
Giulia also send me a bear amigurumi pattern (I will try it someday), stars ( will definitely looked good for my next amigurumi photo session), a loom knitting kit, a bag in a coffee bean bag, a notebook and...

yarns, two lady bugs (my favorite), some owl and angel charm, round bells, chocolates (yum!) and BEADS!

I really love the beads, because lately I was thinking of adding beads for my amigurumis but didn't have time to look for and buy the beads, then found the beads in the packages.

The alphabet series: A untuk Ayam

Okay, finally it's time for the new series for 2011 (a little bit late, I know).
and it's not really a series, it's more like a challenge for myself.
I will make an alphabet amigurumi series.
Not a letter shaped amigurumi, but a weekly amigurumi based on certain letter from the alphabet.
since I'm Indonesian, I will use words from Bahasa Indonesia.

so the first is of course begins from the letter A.
the first word in my mind is Apel (Apple), very standard for every learn to read book.
the second word in my mind was Anjing (Dog), but last week I already made a dog, so I pick Ayam (chicken)
The interesting part in Bahasa, Ayam could mean chick, hen and rooster. We don't care if it's girl or boy, a big one or the small one :p

yeah... I miscalculated twice before finally made the Ayam based on my sketch.

Anying & Teyong's Valentine

Anying is Anjing (dog), Teyong is Terong (eggplant).

Cerita si Bekantan (Bekantan's Story)

Bekantan a.k.a the proboscis monkey (Nasalis lavartus) a.k.a monyet Belanda (Dutch Monkey) a.k.a monyet Dufan (the mascot of the a theme park at Jakarta)

the Bekantan looked like a man in space suit, wearing a pair of gloves :P

it's a He, cause only the male Bekantan has a long nose

Despite its many aliases, they are kinda forgotten.
when I was working on my Orangutanku project, I found a lot of Orangutan Organization, while it's hard to find any special organization for this long-nosed monkeys.
while both Orangutan and Bekantan live in Indonesia (and also in Malaysia and some other countries)
It's hard to collect information about Bekantan, while I have at least 4 DVDs of orangutan documentary movies, some books and magazines, a real-size orangutan plushy.
My only source about Bekantan is from the internet.
Last year I read an article from Kompas.com (see, I can't find the article), it is said that Bekantan might be extinct in a few years :'(
I didn't even like Bekantan, I had a bad memory of being chased by the Monyet Dufan (yup, human wearing Bekantan costume), but I'd feel sorry if we just let it happen.
it's too soon to make a Bekantan project cause of lack of informations, but if you happen to know how to help, please let me know.

Noir the Rabbit

once again, Happy Chinese New Year!
since the 2011 is the Rabbit Year, of course I made a rabbit amigurumi too.
white rabbit is cute, but what we have is a Black Rabbit named Noir.

Hop Hop for the better prosperity on Rabbit Year

The real Noir is an angora rabbit, she's living at a big bird cage.
She is actually my sister's rabbit, but she kinda neglected it, so my Mom taking care of Noir now.
Noir is having a crisis identity, cause my mom call her as "Mut" from "Marmut" (guinea pig)
I don't remember how old is Noir, I believe we have her for more than 1-2 years.
And by the way, who said that a rabbit is a quite animal?
She sometimes jumps and hops around so noisily she could wake me up!

Ah I forgot to take a picture of the Noir gurumi from the side view, you can't se her stripped sweater and her blue pants (and her tail) :p

the Chinese Gold Ornament

lately I love to go to shops/ malls seeing the Chinese New Year Decorations.
Not because I'm celebrating it, but it's Gold everywhere (I knew it's fake)
Since I'm more like Uncle Scrooge than a Daisy Duck, I really love seeing money and other valuable stone :)
I'm not Chinese but I thought it would be interesting to have some Chinese gold ornament for the Chinese New Year.

You might try too, I wrote the pattern but actually never tested it yet, so please understand if there were some mistakes.
And don't forget to hope for better prosperity :)

Orangutanku #0 : Nody

remember my orangutanku project?

I was planning to make about 26 orangutan dolls last year and sell it to adopt a real orangutan on the shelter.

I failed making all 26 orangutan dolls before the end of 2010, and I don't think that I will try reaching the target this year.
it's not because I stopped to care, but there's a new project waiting. I would still gladly make you an orangutan doll and the 15% gained from the adoptional fee would belong to the real orangutan at the shelter as a donation. So the different is I would only make orangutan dolls by order.

Failed to reach the target, doesn't mean failed reaching the goal.
Here's the good news, I finally adopted Nody, a 3 years old orangutan boy via BOSF.

He's cute, right?

for now I only adopted Nody for 3 months period, but I think I will continue the adoption after the next 3 months. BOSF sent me the story of Nody, so it's like I have a kid, paying for his food, but takes no responsibility (which is FUN!). like my sister said, at least we know our money used for something good.

So... if you are thinking to spend your money for a good cause, you might try adopting orangutans.

by the way, when I started the orangutanku project, I made a prototype, which I really love and I kept for myself. therefor you won't see him available for adoption.

Now I name this orangutan doll Nody, like my real orangutan boy :)

My sister gave me the Knitwit book by Katie Boyette for my birthday (a review will coming soon)

I didn't know what to do during the Christmas Holiday (which didn't really happen tho)

so my sister challenged me to make a knitted Ninja for her boyfriend.

That's sounded weird right? knitting for someone's boyfriend, when I knew that my sister could knit too even better than me, so we made a deal,

I knit, she sew.

Since she's only staying at home during the holiday, I had to finish knitting before the holiday's over.

I was sleeping like a dog on New Year's eve, but I stay awake on the night after just to finish knitting the doll then leave my sister to sew all the parts.

I only take few pictures on the last minute before she's going back to her home.

I think it's pretty good for our first collaboration after so many long time (since she accidentally cut my thumb, not a deep wound, only changed a little part of my finger print)

by the way, it's the second amigurumi we made together. We made a Dad-gurumi when we were little.

I don't know where it is now. Back then she did the crochet, I sew.

Gloomy Bear

let's take a look back to 2010,
My colleague asked me to make a Gloomy Bear amigurumi for his girlfriend.
the birthday was on December 31st

I made the eyes using flanel, definitely the hardest part to made.
Unfortunately I'm unable to make it covered with blood :p
